I always liked Teamspeak but after using Discord, it's hard to want to use anything but it. My teams and I was the VoIP option with the lowest latency and would need some serious data for our decision making. I was shocked when I went to QuakeCon and they were using it. Ventrillo doesn't seem as popular as before. If you do latency testing with Discord, I'd be curious to know the results. I havent done any major testing with Discord, but from what I have used of it, I do like it. We ran test through countless settings and bitrates for Vent, Teamspeak, Mumble and Skype and came away like Mumble the best. I've kept it, because after extensive testing, my group came to the conclusion that mumble has the least latency time between speaking and the listener hearing it. I'm one of the few people that still run a Mumble server. I'm not sure that would happen but it could easily make it the second choice for tons of gamers. Or will you still use other programs or even ignore discord completely? Discuss!īut to answer the thread, I really feel Discord will take tons of popularity from Teamspeak for sure, but will it kill it? Who knows, some people will remain loyal to it, no matter what. Please let me know in the comments what you think and what I missed. What do you guys think? Will you abandon skype, teamspeak and all the other communication programs because discord will soon offer all the same features but in one package AND for free. I tried my best to be fair, truthful and not bias. I will definitly not use skype or teamspeak anymore after videocalls and screenshare arrive. The only thing which will keep skype alive is that it comes preinstalled with Windows 10. It's easy to get other people to switch to discord as you can use it in most modern browsers without downloading it if you want to try it out. And not just that - everyone in a call can screenshare at the same time if they want to. And the upcoming feature of discord will be exactly that: videocall and screenshare. The only thing which keeps skype on my system are the videoconferences I often do. I already deleted teamspeak from my system as discord offers the same but allows free server creation. (like using custom Smileys and having a .gif as your profile picture instead of a normal. They earn money by selling "premium" visual only content. For anyone who doesn't know: discord offers the same features as teamspeak and most of the features of skype - but for free. I just read news about upcoming features in discord.
